The goals of Caio Garcia and Philip Teresa sealed the victory and made us all proud. Let's celebrate this historic victory together?

An Unforgettable Turnaround

We, as passionate fans, witnessed another incredible achievement by Flamengo last Saturday. The U-20 team turned the game around against Olympiacos, winning 2-1 and becoming the third team in history to win the U-20 Club World Cup. It was a magical night at Maracanã, which will forever be etched in our hearts.

Emotion and Pride

Filipe Luís, the team's coach, couldn't hide his emotion when talking about the achievement. He shared with us that making this dream come true at Maracanã was indescribable. And how could you not be moved? Seeing our boys surpass all expectations and bring home another title is a source of pride for all of us.

Acknowledgements and Recognition

Filipe Luís made a point of thanking coach Mário Jorge, who was in charge of the under-20 team before leaving Flamengo to coach the under-17 team in Saudi Arabia. He highlighted the importance of Mário Jorge's work in forming this winning team. “He left me with the legacy of the Libertadores title, with an extraordinary team in hand so I could make my dream come true,” said Filipe Luís.

Strategy and Overcoming

Facing a tactically perfect team like Olympiacos was no easy task. Flamengo needed a lot of strategy and mental strength to turn the game around.

Filipe Luís highlighted the importance of the players who came off the bench, such as Caio Garcia and Felipe Teresa, who scored the winning goals. “I have a group of men. The guys who came from outside knew that they would make the team even more powerful,” said the coach.

History and Tradition

The U-20 World Cup trophy began to be contested in 2022, and Flamengo now joins a selective list of champions. In its first edition, Benfica beat Peñarol 1-0. Now, it's Flamengo's turn to shine and show the world the strength of its youth team.

The Fans and the Maracanã

The reunion with the fans at Maracanã was emotional. Filipe Luís commented on the feeling of returning to the stadium and being applauded by the fans. “Coming back here – because I’ve only been back twice, after I stopped playing – and after a title, it’s really good. Seeing everyone applauding, celebrating, shouting ‘party in the favela’… It’s crazy. I have no words to thank them for this moment they gave me today”, declared the coach.

Comparisons and Challenges

When asked which comeback was more difficult, the 2019 Libertadores as a player or the U-20 World Cup as a coach, Filipe Luís was honest. “That Libertadores was difficult, huh. If today had been in the last minute, I wouldn’t have been able to handle it. Two goals in the last two minutes, like in the Libertadores, I wouldn’t have been able to handle it. It’s always more difficult on the coach’s side,” he confessed.

Planning and Development

Filipe Luís also spoke about his career plan and the importance of starting at the grassroots level. He highlighted the need to surround himself with intelligent and qualified people to form an efficient coaching staff. “Besides becoming a coach, the step up from the grassroots level is to be able to put together a staff of different people, who have helped me and have been helping me a lot,” he explained.

Legacy of the U-20 World Cup

The opportunity to play in an Intercontinental Cup is something extraordinary. Filipe Luís highlighted the importance of playing against European teams and the advantage of playing at Maracanã, with the fans by your side.

“We saw the talent they have, they are a very good team. This gives even more merit to the victory we achieved today. It is not easy to be champion of anything. World champion… It is a unique moment”, said the coach.

Athlete Training

Filipe Luís also reflected on the development of athletes in Brazilian football, both from a sporting and educational perspective. He highlighted the importance of good coaches at the grassroots level and the need to encourage more dribbling players.

“This pedagogical process, this methodology for children, of teaching them how to dribble, came from futsal. I don’t know why it’s being lost. There are few teams that have a player who dribbles so well that you need to use two or three players to score,” he pondered.

Next Steps

The future is uncertain, but Filipe Luís made clear his love for Flamengo and his desire to continue working at the club. “What I can say is that I love Flamengo.

I love this club, living in Rio de Janeiro, dedicating myself and doing what I'm doing. I already love being a coach: I like it, I enjoy it, I'm passionate about this profession. I want to be working. Where it will be, I honestly don't know. I'll do everything possible to get there one day,” he concluded.
